Antares Charter purchased the Antares in 2012. Initially overhauled for diving expeditions, the vessel was upgraded to become
a multi-purpose utility vessel, whether for diving, research or as a guard vessel.
The upgrade wasn’t limited to structural changes, but also encompassed overhauling the engine room. Both DC generators were completely overhauled, as was the main SMIT-MAN R55 engine.
She was fitted with state of the art appliances and technical innovations, ready to start her new life as a multi-purpose
vessel. These innovations are to be found in our new vessel’s computer room, completely renewed galley, messroom, medical room and other places.
Meanwhile the 62 year-old vessel has proven her seaworthiness by staying more than 200 consecutive days outside port limits, without any failures.

The engine room got an overhaul in 2012, which consisted of taking out all cylinders, inspect the pistons and liners, take out and inspect the bearings of the crankshaft and clock.
Overhaul the DC anchors and overhaul the SB and PS diesel engines.
In June 2014 the Antares had an intermediary dry dock service. Pipes with bolt connections have been replaced with welded connections to reduce risk of leakages. Furthermore the complete underbody has been high pressure washed and scraped. A tie coat and 2 antifouling coatings finished the job. The Matn's stabilizers have been inspected and are in good working order.
